The Wine

Tasting Notes
The 2021 Pinot Noir is a single vineyard wine sourced from the Meadowbank vineyard in the Derwent Valley in southern Tasmania. The MV6 and Pommard clones were planted in 1989.

The growing season leading up to 2021 was favourable with good winter rainfall, good flowering conditions and as summer progressed, average temperatures. In southern Tasmania we saw the return of average yields and high quality fruit.

This is a Pinot Noir with vivid colour, an aroma of ripe cherries and forest floor. The palate is rich and creamy with a persistent core of sweet fruit balanced by ripe tannins and soft lingering natural acidity.

Reviews

International WINE Challenge 2024 – 95 Points
“Beautifully balanced Pinot from Australia’s most exciting cool climate area. Gentle texture balanced by bright acidity, pointing up blueberry and pink apple fruit with just a touch of savoury maturity”

Halliday Wine Companion 2025 – 95 Points
“Bright ruby in the glass with aromas of red cherry and plum fruits dredged with exotric spice and amaro herbs, whiffs of roasting meats, undergrowth, gentle cedar and earth. Silky and fruit pure with fine chalky tannin grip and a meaty complex palate shape that exist long, elegant and true” Dave Brookes

THE VINEYARD

The Chardonnay and Pinot vineyard patches selected by Dawson James were planted in 1989. Consequently vine-age plays an important part in the development of flavour and the balance of the fruit.
