The Wine

6 x 750ml bottles

Tasting Notes
A single vineyard wine sourced from the Meadowbank vineyard in the Derwent Valley in southern Tasmania. I10V5 clone Chardonnay planted in 2000.

The growing season for the 2021 vintage was near perfect producing a moderate crop of Chardonnay with fully developed flavours and natural balance. Fruit was hand-picked on 30th March before the seasonal rainfall break.

The wine is bright with lifted lemon peel, spice and a background flinty aroma of natural fermentation on light grape juice solids. The palate is finely poised with juicy citrus flavours, stone fruits, and a mineral edge which is balanced by zesty natural acidity finishing with a gentle grip.

Reviews
2025 Halliday Wine Companion; 96 Points
“Pure citrus and stone fruits riding on rails of mineral-laden acidity showing hints of white flowers, struck match, soft spice, almond paste and gentle whiffs of marzipan and crushed stone. There is a relentless minerally velocity and a sense of umami and sapidity as it gracefully disappears from view. Super stuff.” Dave Brookes

2024 International WINE Challenge; 92 Points
“Mineral style, lemon, thistle, fresh and juicy, savoury. Subtle + elegant with great length”

THE VINEYARD

The Chardonnay and Pinot vineyard patches selected by Dawson James were planted in 1989. Consequently vine-age plays an important part in the development of flavour and the balance of the fruit.
